Many recognize that a crisis is occurring in America’s schools today. In many areas, school violence rates are at an all time high, test scores are plummeting, and high dropout rates continue to plague our school district. Juvenile correctional institutions and prisons are bursting with our youth, men and women who have failed in school. While school districts and governments wrestle to make our educational system effective, they are faced with mounting social problems that cannot be solved by merely teaching academic skills. Because of the many problems in this world, our organization would like to concentrate on helping Underserved Youth, Parents, and Building Better Communities through the power of Believing, Doing, Knowing (B.D.K.).
B.D.K. is an innovative program that provides students with the opportunity to address the issues that may have impeded their progress and reestablishes self-worth by acquiring life skills and strategies that connect them in a positive way to their school and their community. Believing, Doing, Knowing is a cutting-edge approach that improves academic achievements, reduces the effects of at-risk factors and builds positive developmental assets in students, teachers, parents and members of the community. B.D.K. utilizes community-building strategies from author Clifton Taulbert’s critically acclaimed Eight Habits of the Heart and Jay McGraw’s bestseller Life Strategies for Teens which helps reverse the hopelessness and despair in today’s youth. Through our guidance, resilience and hope is restored. For those who embrace B.D.K., they are BELIEVING in themselves, DOING whatever it takes and KNOWING that they can be successful. My endeavor is to rigorously work and maintain the quality of the B.D.K. experience for students and to extend the program to further reach and benefit the community.
MISSION STATEMENT: To offer diverse adolescents with empowering life skills, strategies and inspiration that will bridge them constructively to their school and community.
VISION: To foster a safe and positive environment where students implement and develop techniques necessary to impact their family, community and society.

About Me
- Wendell Brooks
- Wendell D. Brooks, educator, minister, mentor, and coach is the founder of B.D.K. Foundation Inc. He resides in Orange County California and has been happily married to his wife Alicia for over thirty years and has three adult children and one grandchild. Motivating the youth to become the best has been a continuous venture of Brooks’, he empowers them with B.D.K. principles: Believing in oneself builds confidence, Doing whatever it takes develops an improvement in character, and Knowing one’s success is a powerful insight for the youth to realize that their lives are significant. Wendell acknowledges that he would not have reached his high level of accomplishment without the members of his community especially those in the city of Long Beach where he grew up. He has spent most of his life serving the public. Wendell is a community builder, extending his experience in the correctional institutions, school campuses, the classrooms, or in the neighborhood.
